‘Tesk’ could be the culprit is a gene that controls the sensitivity of pain nerves in the brain and if defective, can activate these nerves and cause such severe headaches known as migraines.
After studying the DNA of 110 migraine sufferers and their families, arrived at the conclusion of scientists from Oxford University with a Canadian team funded by Genome Canada.
“We’ve taken a big step toward understanding why some people get migraines and what happens in families,” said Dr. Zameel Cader, a neurologist at the Functional Genomics Unit at the University of Oxford.
“Previous studies have identified parts of our DNA that increase risk in the general population but not directly responsible for the common migraine,” said the scientist.

Botox Approved to Control Migraine
WASHINGTON (AP) – Federal health officials on Friday approved Botox injections, which typically are used to blur the wrinkles, to alleviate migraine, which gave the nod to the pharmaceutical company Allergan to market its drug with patients with a history of suffering from these severe headaches.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA, for its acronym in English) approved the drug for patients experiencing 15 or more days of migraine per month. Allergan, which specializes in cosmetics and medicines for eye care, reported that nearly 3.2 million people suffer from chronic migraines in the United States.
To use this new drug, the doctors injected the patients in the neck or head every two weeks, to moderate future headaches.

We studied 18 healthy volunteers who received electronic stimulation painful left ankle, the radiologists found that when acupuncture needles are placed on the right side of the body of individuals, the activation of pain processing areas in the brain was reduced substantially.
“This is just one of the studies confirming that acupuncture helps with chronic pain,” said Dr. Daniel Hsu at AOL Health.
