<p>A new study by the Department of Agriculture of the United States found that cinnamon can reduce the risk of diabetes and heart disease. This study consisted of 22 obese people with irregular glucose levels, making them candidates for developing diabetes.</p>
<p>When blood sugar is too high, the body produces a large amount of insulin, which is also called the hunger hormone. The excess cells resist insulin and the person ends with a high blood sugar and insulin, a condition known as insulin resistance.</p>
<p>This condition can affect people with normal weight, but is very rare, mostly suffer from those who are overweight. According to the National Repository of Diabetes, people who suffer from insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes developed in 10 years but lost in 5 to 7% by weight. People with this condition are also at increased risk of cardiovascular disease.</p>
<p><span id="more-564"></span>In this study, the group split into two, one half was given a placebo, while the remainder was given 250 mg of cinnamon extract soluble in water, which consumed two times a day. The researchers took blood samples after a night without eating at baseline, six weeks and 12 weeks later. The purpose was to find changes in glucose levels and the presence of antioxidants.</p>
<p>Those taking the solution of cinnamon improved their levels of antioxidants from 13 to 23%. It is known that cinnamon contains antioxidants, but what is surprising is that the increase in antioxidants improved the blood sugar on an empty stomach. Other studies have concluded that cinnamon regulates blood sugar, triglycerides and cholesterol in people with Type 2 Diabetes.</p>
<p>Losing weight is the best way to prevent diabetes, but also hurts to add a little cinnamon to your favorite healthy dishes.</p>

<p>Diabetics should combine aerobic exercise with weight lifting to get the best results in reducing the level of blood sugar, according to a new study.</p>
<p>The combination also proved to be the best for weight loss compared with the practice of only one of those sports.</p>
<p>The blood sugar used to feed the muscles and burn more during aerobic activity. In contrast, weight lifting helps build more muscle, and both activities change in muscle protein in ways that improve the process.</p>
<p>&#8220;It is clear that aerobic exercise and strength is better than either alone,&#8221; said lead study author Dr. Tim Church, the Pennington Biomedical Research Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. &#8220;It&#8217;s almost like taking two different medicines.&#8221;</p>
<p>Patients in the study, to be published Wednesday in the Journal of the American Medical Association, the results achieved in just over nine months, exercising three times weekly for about 45 minutes.</p>
<p>&#8220;People can handle this amount of exercise,&#8221; said Laurie Goodyear of Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston, who was not involved in the new study but performed similar research. &#8220;They did not have to diet. This was only the effect of exercise.&#8221;</p>
<p>The researchers&#8217; goal was to test three exercise programs that doctors could recommend a realistic and that patients could follow.</p>
<p><span id="more-557"></span>Compared the effect of aerobic exercise alone, weight lifting alone and the combination of both. The federal recommendations suggest aerobic exercise and weight training for all adults.</p>
<p>The three groups did during the same period last year, and a fourth group made only one kind of stretching and relaxation once a week in order to achieve greater comparability in the study. This was done with 245 people with diabetes.</p>
<p>Accompanied by coaches, patients exercised on a treadmill that increased the slope 2% every two minutes. Weight lifting, also coordinated by a trainer, was held on machines that worked the muscles in the upper body and legs, while the weight was increased as participants became more severe.</p>
<p>&#8220;It gave me more energy. That was one of the first things I noticed,&#8221; said Deidra Atkins-Ball, 44, a biology professor who has been diagnosed with diabetes a year before it joined the combined exercise group .</p>
<p>Among patients with combined exercises, 41% reduced the number of drugs she took for diabetes or decreased their average blood sugar as regular tests, compared with 26% who only lifted weights, 29% of those who only aerobic exercise and 22% in the group who did not practice any of those sports.</p>

<p>The Food and Drug Administration (FDA, for its acronym in English) approved the drug for patients experiencing 15 or more days of migraine per month. Allergan, which specializes in cosmetics and medicines for eye care, reported that nearly 3.2 million people suffer from chronic migraines in the United States.</p>
<p>To use this new drug, the doctors injected the patients in the neck or head every two weeks, to moderate future headaches.</p>
<p><span id="more-519"></span>Doctors currently use several medications to treat migraines, from pain relievers that are sold without prescription, like Advil, to require that narcotic prescription, such as codeine.</p>
<p>Many patients respond well to changes in diet or activities, such as reducing caffeine and stress.</p>

<p>Using MRI, researchers led by Dr. Nina Theysohn could observe brain areas that normally deal with perception and response to pain.</p>
<p>We studied 18 healthy volunteers who received electronic stimulation painful left ankle, the radiologists found that when acupuncture needles are placed on the right side of the body of individuals, the activation of pain processing areas in the brain was reduced substantially.</p>
<p>&#8220;This is just one of the studies confirming that acupuncture helps with chronic pain,&#8221; said Dr. Daniel Hsu at AOL Health.</p>
<p><span id="more-516"></span>Hsu says that acupuncture works in two ways. Stimulates the body to produce chemicals that act as <a href="http://www.outfrontseattle.org/how-acupuncture-work.htm">natural painkillers</a>, and interfering with pain signals sent to the brain.</p>
