What is lymphoma?

The word comes from lymphoma lymphocytes, the name given to the principal cells involved in the immune system of the organism. They circulate in a network that it calls the phatic lymfsysteem. But if the cells from defects, tumors can arise in just about every body part. These are one-Hodgkin lymphoma or non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. This cancer is often misunderstood.

Lymphoma announces cancer

According to a survey conducted by TNS Healthcare in France, this type of cancer is usually discovered following a consultation for a number of disturbing symptoms: excessive night sweating, extreme fatigue, ribs or ganglia. But usually the word lymphoma not associated with cancer, the doctor and not directly on the link. The doctors at the first consultation have consulted because will not have sufficient data to confirm the diagnosis. This is only a haematologist or an oncologist / haematologist. They can finally confirm the diagnosis and treatment proposals including chemotherapy. Usually the patients only then realize that a lymphoma is a cancer. The communication is very hard and also the patient faced with a disease he does not know well or not.

What is lymphoma?

It is cancer of the lymphatic system is part of the defense to fight infection and disease. It is a network of blood vessels and ganglia which circulating lymphocytes, cells that are very important to the immune system. When abnormal lymphocytes are created, which then stack them and go on to form tumors in any body part can “install”.

Hodgkin and non-Hodgkin

Depending on the type of lymphoma makes a distinction between:

* Hodgkin lymphomas (Hodgkin’s disease),
* And symptoms suggestive of non-Hodgkin lymphoma, the most common form (90% of cases).

In the latter there are a dozen types of lymphomas are divided into two major ‘families’: painless lymphomas and aggressive lymphomas that slowly evolve rapidly evolve. The first type is incurable, but the current treatments make sure that evolution can be managed. The second type is in half the cases are cured.

The treatment relies mainly on poly-chemotherapy, but sometimes also radiotherapy, immunotherapy or transplantation of stem cells or bone marrow.
